Cold coffees

Iced coffee

Iced coffee is brewed coffee served cold over ice. Make it stronger than normal so the ice does not water it down.

  • Ratio About 1 part coffee to 8 to 10 parts water, brewed strong, then poured over ice
  • Serve 250 to 350 ml, cold, in a tall glass
  • Grind Medium

Iced coffee is regular coffee that has been cooled and poured over ice. If you simply pour hot coffee on ice, it can taste thin and bitter. The best way is to brew it twice as strong, or to chill it first, so that it still tastes of coffee when the ice melts. You can have it black, with milk, or sweetened.

How it is made

  1. 01

Brew coffee at double strength, for example 30 g of coffee to 250 ml of water.

  2. 02

Let it cool for 5 to 10 minutes, or chill it in the fridge.

  3. 03

Fill a tall glass with ice.

  4. 04

Pour the coffee over the ice.

  5. 05

Add milk, sugar or syrup to taste.

Questions

Why does iced coffee taste watery?

The ice melts and dilutes it. Brew it stronger, or use coffee ice cubes made from leftover coffee.

Is iced coffee stronger than hot coffee?

Not by itself. It depends on how strong it was brewed and how much ice there is.
