A mocha, or caffe mocha, is a latte with chocolate added. The chocolate can be syrup, melted dark chocolate or cocoa powder with sugar. The name comes from the Yemeni port of Mocha, which was once a major coffee trading port. It is sweet and comforting, and a good way to enjoy coffee for people who do not like bitterness.

How it is made

  1. 01

Put 1 to 2 tablespoons of chocolate sauce or melted dark chocolate in a large cup.

Questions

Why is it called a mocha?

The name comes from the port of Mocha in Yemen, once a famous place for exporting coffee. Over time the word came to mean chocolate flavoured coffee.

Can I make a mocha at home without an espresso machine?

Yes. Use a very strong moka pot coffee or AeroPress coffee in place of the espresso, and heat the milk in a pan or with a hand frother.
