Black coffee means brewed coffee served without milk or sugar. It can be made by any method: filter, French press, pour over, AeroPress or drip bag. Because nothing hides the flavour, it shows the real character of the beans, including fruit, chocolate and acidity. Light roasts are usually tasted this way.

How it is made

  1. 01

Weigh the coffee and the water. About 1 g of coffee to 15 to 17 g of water is a good start.

  2. 02

Grind fresh to the right size for your brewer.

  3. 03

Brew with water at about 92 to 96 degrees Celsius.

  4. 04

    Pour into a warm mug.

  5. 05

Let it cool for a minute, then taste.

Questions

Is black coffee healthy?

Plain black coffee has almost no calories. If you have a health condition, are pregnant or take medicine, ask your doctor how much coffee is right for you.

Why does my black coffee taste bitter?

Usually the water was too hot, the grind too fine, or the brew too long. Try a coarser grind and a shorter time.
