The amount of caffeine in a cup of coffee depends on the bean, the dose, the brew method and the size of the cup, so any figure is a rough guide. A few typical ranges can help you plan your day.

A single shot of espresso, about 30 ml, usually has roughly 60 to 80 mg of caffeine. A double shot has about twice that. Because lattes and cappuccinos are made from the same shots, they have the same caffeine as the shots in them.

A 240 ml cup of brewed filter or drip coffee often has about 80 to 120 mg of caffeine, and sometimes more. A large mug of filter coffee can have more caffeine than an espresso, because it contains more liquid and more coffee.

Cold brew concentrate can be very strong, but is normally diluted. Once diluted, a glass has about the same as a cup of filter coffee. Instant coffee often has about 60 to 80 mg a cup, and decaf usually has a few milligrams.

Robusta has roughly twice the caffeine of Arabica. Roast level changes caffeine very little. If you are sensitive to caffeine, are pregnant, or have a health condition, ask your doctor how much is right for you. Drinking water alongside your coffee and avoiding it close to bedtime are simple ways to keep caffeine from affecting your sleep.
